About Kamia
My name is Kamia Honeyblue, and I am a Mass Communication student at North Carolina Central University concentrating in Public Relations. I have a strong passion for media, journalism, and strategic communication, and I enjoy creating content that informs, engages, and inspires others.
Throughout my time at NCCU, I have gained hands-on experience through media workshops, campus leadership roles, and creative projects. I serve as an event coordinator for student organizations, a campus ambassador who provides tours to prospective students and families, and a recruiter dedicated to helping others discover opportunities at NCCU. I have also explored multimedia production through podcasting, television studio training, graphic design, and interviewing media professionals.
My career goal is to work in the communications industry, where I can combine creativity, storytelling, and public engagement to make a positive impact. This portfolio represents my academic achievements, professional experiences, and continued growth as a future communications professional.
Visit To WNCU- TV Station
My journey in the Mass Communication Department at North Carolina Central University has provided me with valuable hands-on experiences that have strengthened my passion for media and communications. One of the most memorable experiences was visiting the PBS/WNCU-TV studio, where my classmates and I had the opportunity to meet television director Mike Wilkes. During the visit, we learned about the many roles involved in television production and gained insight into the dedication and teamwork required to create quality programming.
Throughout the program, I have been exposed to various areas of the communications field, including journalism, public relations, audio production, television broadcasting, and digital media. Learning about each department has helped me better understand the wide range of career opportunities available within the industry and how different communication professionals work together to inform and engage audiences.

Serving the Community
One of the most meaningful experiences during my journey in Mass Communication was volunteering at Lakewood Elementary School, where I helped distribute food to families in the community. This experience allowed me to interact with people from different backgrounds and better understand some of the challenges that individuals and families face in their daily lives. While my role was simple, it reminded me of the importance of service, empathy, and being present in the communities we hope to serve.
As someone pursuing a career in communications and journalism, I believe it is important to place yourself within the communities you are reporting on rather than viewing them from a distance. Building genuine connections with people helps communicators understand their experiences, concerns, and perspectives. This understanding allows journalists and public relations professionals to tell stories that are accurate, meaningful, and relevant to the audiences they serve.
